Key Issues for The City of Muncie

Imagine the possibilities...

I want my children and grandchildren to live and work in Muncie. That’s why we need to create an environment where all of our citizens have the opportunity to succeed. I’m running for mayor because I believe in our ability to create a brighter future, one that results in more people moving into Muncie than moving away from Muncie.

We are a community uniquely positioned to make this happen. We have a low cost of living with a workforce dedicated to hard work and perfection, a world-class university and access to interstate and transportations routes. We have neighborhoods where people care about the future of family and friends. We may never return to the Muncie of the past, but we can carve out a Muncie of the future that offers hope and opportunity to everyone.

From day one, I will make sure the world knows that Muncie is open for business. We will remove the red tape that too often holds back workers and employers, provide incentives for companies that locate here and follow through on job-creation promises and make sure our existing businesses have every resource they need to expand and succeed. We are in a global economy, and I believe that Muncie workers and businesses can compete with anyone.

I’ve been listening to what businesses and workers are saying across Muncie. They want to see people set aside politics and work together to strengthen our economy with innovative partnerships and common-sense programs. Workers want an opportunity to compete for jobs that pay a living wage with benefits, while employers want a level playing field where government doesn’t hamper their growth with unreasonable demands and regulations. It’s not going to be easy, but I am confident we have the abilities and resources to again make Muncie the leading destination for good jobs and successful businesses.

We all must work together to make Muncie safer. I will work with our experienced public safety officials to find ways to get more officers out on our streets and in our neighborhoods. Local residents can take a more active role in helping those officers on the front lines through community-based programs, such as expanded and revitalized crime watch efforts. In addition, we must find ways to provide modern equipment and training to our public safety officers.
